Philanthropic & Effective, Engelman Berger Turns Ten!
Phoenix, Arizona) Phoenix-based law firm Engelman Berger is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this spring. Launched as a boutique business, bankruptcy and debtor-creditor firm in 1999, Engelman Berger has expanded its practice to include related legal services for their business owner, financial institution, and municipal clients. Firm co-founder Steven Berger states: “We have grown carefully to make sure each new professional adds to our ability to help solve our clients’ legal problems and prevent future ones. We vowed to be lawyers who do not create unnecessary roadblocks to our clients’ objectives. As a firm, I think we’re doing that."
Based on their successes, Berger is right. The firm has grown to 11 full-time attorneys and 13 related support staff, focusing on a variety of practice areas, including: bankruptcy, water & environmental law, loan workouts, lease litigation, mediation, commercial litigation and business transactions. In addition, the firm recently expanded its office space to accommodate its growing client base. Engelman Berger now occupies over 11,000 square feet at 3636 N. Central Avenue’s 7th floor. Known for recruiting talented attorneys, the firm’s lawyers have consistently been recognized by their peers and governing bodies, including: The National Register of Preeminent Law Firms, “The Best Lawyers in America”, and “Best of The Bar”. The firm and its lawyers have also been recognized for their pro bono services, including awards from the State Bar of Arizona and the Volunteer Lawyer Program including “Volunteer Lawyer of the Year”, “Top Pro Bono Award”, and “VLP Attorney of the Month”. Attorneys also donate hundreds of hours each year in service to non-profit organizations, including the Friends of the Phoenix Library, Pardes Day School, and the Anti-Defamation League.
With many AV Rated attorneys, Engelman Berger has become known for its excellence in several fields. New lawyers have been recruited from a summer clerkship program and judicial clerkships, while experienced lawyers have joined from other firms.
During these challenging economic times, Engelman Berger continues to work with borrowers and lenders dealing with bankruptcy, loan workouts, lease defaults, and other litigation during the downturn. The firm expects to continue growth and will likely add two more attorneys next year, all necessary to accommodate the expanding needs of its clients. “As we look forward, the future of Engelman Berger is in the talent, diversity and expertise of our lawyers. We expect the next 10 years will be as good as the first ten,” adds co-founder David Engelman.
The focus of Engelman Berger, P.C. is the resolution of legal issues arising in business. A large portion of the firm’s practice is related to resolution of disputes arising in the United States Bankruptcy Court, where the firm regularly appears representing creditors, trustees, debtors, lessors, and those interested in purchasing assets. In addition, the firm has an active commercial litigation practice, water rights practice, and real estate transaction practice. The firm regularly represents lenders in loan documentation and loan workouts, and closely held businesses as general legal counsel, helping business owners resolve a myriad of legal issues. The firm also assists in new business entity formations, and in resolving business related disputes regarding commercial leases, ownership issues, real estate, and other issues. Listening to the client’s goals, spirited representation in legal disputes, and creative resolutions make up the foundation to this firm.
